A few words about me, and my art...

My name is Jim Genovese. I am a self-taught artist and I live in Victoria, British Columbia. I began painting as a young student in the New York City area. I initially worked with oils, but soon switched to the more stark and precise media of graphite pencil. The drawing, value, and shading techniques I mastered in my pencil drawings now are fundamental and integral to my paintings as well. I still draw and balance my drawing against my paintings, the former using value and precision, the latter using color and the free flow of the media. My favorite media are pen and ink, charcoal, graphite, watercolour, acrylic and oil. I love woring from real life, and do it whenever possible. Sketching in coffee shops is my passion.
